Well, what can i say... what a start to the NFL season. Billy..Billy boy you did it again.
Thursday NFL kick-off began with a much anticipated match-up for NFL fans as the Steelers visited the Superbowl Champion New England Patriots last Thursday.
Plenty of storylines were present to begin things. The Pats are coming off ANOTHER championship, as hard as it is to swallow for us Hawk fans..Bittersweet, however, since the Patriots spent the last 7 Months with Deflategate hanging over their heads. All of that, as Patriot luck would have it, was laid to rest with Tom Brady escaping any punishment for his possible role in all of that controversy. He was suited up and ready to go face the Steelers to get redemption. On top of this, an ESPN article was put out just prior to the game which tied deflategate into the Patriots last big scandel Spygate.
For any unfamiliar,The article really outlined a very organized and deliberate operation of Patriot staffers disquised as camera men getting video of visting team hand signals. If approached they would explain they were getting video for promotional issues, or for anything other than coaching usage. The article went on to explain how this footage was carefully destroyed with help from many high ranking officials. Deflategate was then tied in as being a make up call for Goodel who still had several organizations and CEOs wanting closure from the spygate events that took place, and the lack of punishment and accountability.
Now, let us fast forward to the game Thursday, when unexplicably the Steelers headsets began to malfunction at Gilette Stadium.. home to those Patriots and their Patriot ways. The story broke that the Steelers were getting the live audio game announcers going through their headsets which was interferring with coach to coach communication. After the game Steelers coach Mike Tomlin expressed headset communication has often been an issue when playing in the stadium. He was clearly very upset during the interview, and began to refuse to answer any further questions regarding the headset issue.
Belicheck was quick to say he and his coaches too had difficulties and had to change their headsets even to avoid this. Another source explained how the Patriots may have to go without headsets to even the competition under the league's equity rule. All of the sudden things cleared up with the steelers headsets though. That is until officals walked away and problems arose again? What is true, what is false, was it bad timing for the patriots, or was it just another slap in the face to the league brought curteousy of Belicheck is yet to be determined? Judging by recent history, it may never fully be known, but stay tuned to a NYC courtroom near you.
