Messing up on a Chris Taylor isn’t so bad if you aren’t wasting so many draft picks, watching guys like Lindor, Springer, Trout, etc. go on to stardom while we try to figure out what do do with our Hultzen’s, Jackson’s, Ackley’s, Peterson’s, Morgan’s etc.
Mikey Z looks like the only hit outside of Paxton and that was kinda forced on Jackie Z. I don’t even think they were all that sold on the kid, seeing him as a consolation prize.
Seems like our best stuff comes/came from free agency, which is a terrible way to go if you are going to be a mid market spender at best.
$1.03 for every $1.00 does mean many, many trades - and lots of instability. And it’s no way to find that great young club controlled talent. Nobody is trading those guys. It seems like we’re simply throwing lots of spaghetti, eternally.
If Dipoto wants to be a day trader, then that’s what he should do. I’m not overwhelmed with his keen eye for baseball talent, and I’m concerned with how it affects the franchise long term.
The Taylor trade was a fiasco in us fans’ minds because nobody remembers who we got and why we even bothered to make the trade. That just looks careless.
Btw, outside of Root sports during the season and the statistics sites for statistics, doc, this is the only place I go for Mariner information anymore. You’re a great gatekeeper. To borrow from Simon and Garfunkel: I get all the news I need from the Jemanji report. The other great thing is the community vetts and augments your stuff so well. This has gone, for me anyway, from the best Mariner site to the only Mariner site.
