If you were anywhere near the ShoWare center on Wednesday night, your ears were probably ringing with the sound of cheering. Chances are you were part of the cacophony while celebrations of the T-Birds winning against the Kelowna Rockets carried on well through the night. The Birds have consequently won the entire Western Conference Championship and will be heading to the WHL Finals after a game that was full of nail-biting and overtime. The close game ended with a score of 5-4. The Birds ultimately won 4 out of 4 games against the Rockets during the entire series.

During the first period of the game, Kelowna made the first goal when Southam scored with assists from Linaker and Foote. Baillie of Kelowna scored the next goal with an assist from Dube. Seattle was incredibly tense after the round with the game at 2-0, Kelowna. During the second period, Ryan Gropp finally put a point on the board for the T-Birds, with Scott Eansor making the assist. Kelowna made the next goal of the period, however, with a goal from Kirkland and an assist by Johansen. Ethan Bear scored the final goal of the period with assists from Matthew Barzal and Keegan Kolesar.

Kelowna scored again during the beginning of the third period. Kirkland made his second goal of the night, with assists from Baillie and Thurkauf. That was their final goal of the evening, however, and Ethan Bear made another goal afterward with assists from Smith and Barzal. Kolesar scored next with assists from Bear and Barzal.

A last minute goal from Matthew Wedman resulted in the big win. There was no scoring during the first overtime of the game, but Wedman scored his goal in the game’s second overtime with assists from Jared Hauf and Ryan Gropp.

Fans are cheering on Landon Bow once again after an incredibly triumphant conference game on Tuesday night. Bow was able to save 28 out of 32 shots, sealing the fourth Western Conference Championship game in a row for the T-Birds. In the upcoming championship, the Birds will be playing the Brandon Wheat Kings or the Red Deer Rebels. Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Championship is Friday in Brandon, so we will soon discover which team it will be.
