You know we have truly hit the NFL's second season when the NFL Scouting Combine gets underway. Just like during the season when from week to week we overreact and overhype every little move, non-move and everything in between gets blown up. The goings on at the combine are the same way. Every 40 time, vertical jump and interview can propel an NFL-hopeful into the first round, or drop them out of the draft all together.

Luckily for former UW lineback Travis Feeney, he won't be falling into the latter category. On Sunday, Feeney generated quite a buzz around Indianapolis with the performance he put on in his workouts. He ran the second fastest 40 time among linebackers, with a pair of 4.50 times. To top that, he posted the highest vertical jump among linebackers, at 40 inches.

NFL scouts and personnel men love measurables, especially those - or maybe it's just media people that love to tout those type of numbers. Couple Feeney's workout numbers with the numbers he posted last year at Washington, and he has to generate a great amount of interest at the next level. In 2015 Feeney finished in the top three in the Pac-12 in tackles for loss and sacks.

He played extensively on special teams while at Montlake, so many around the country believe that that will prove to be an asset, getting him on an NFL roster and the opportunity to prove that he belongs on the field in time.

But even with his impressive collegiate and workout numbers, there are those around the league that are unsure of how he will pan out in the league. At 6-4, 230 pounds, he's a bit lean for a linebacker. But he is long and fast, as that 40 time proves. He could play safety, and he does have experience playing the position.

Luckily for him, another former Husky and freak athlete carved out a starting job for himself as a rookie. Former Husky standout Shaquille Thompson saw time all over the field, even on the offensive side and faced the same lack of position doubts that Feeney is faced with. Thompson overcame those doubts in spades, earning a starting spot on the NFC champion Carolina Panthers, alongside two Pro Bowl and All-Pro linebackers in Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis.

While Feeney not be getting the attention or hype that Thompson got, the similarities are there. All it takes is one team to spot his talents, like his talents, or think out of the box and create a role for him. One thing is for sure, the UW is churning out NFL prospects with more and more regularity. Now they just need them to produce more W's while they are on campus.
