Mariners Minor League Game Action Recap for August 7
LumberKing royalty: Ketel, D.J., Victor ... Leone has adventurous inning ... etc.

Low-A -- Clinton 7, Quad Cities 5 -- Box

I'll lead with Clinton, since that's where the action is.

First, I'm sure everyone wants to know how many hits Ketel Marte (26intheMix) got.

Answer = 2

Which makes for 26 hits in his last nine games.  Alas, he had his second strikeout during that period.  Still ... nine games in a row with no fewer than two hits in each game; four three-hit games and two four-hit games.

Meanwhile ... Deeeeeej!

Fifth Clinton home run in 13 games for D.J. Peterson, and his 11th overall in 42 games.  Plus a double and a single.  Overall: .288/.354/.558.

When's the last time there was a home-grown .500+ SLG/.200+ ISO guy?  A-Rod I guess?

And ... What's Your Vector, Victor?

A bit wobbly but not bad. Victor Sanchez (Talk40 #12): 6.2 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 1 H, 4 K.

Age: 18.

16 G | 3.09 ERA | 1.09 WHIP | 8.5 H/9 | 1.3 BB/9 | 6.2 K/9

AA -- Mississippi 6, Jackson 5 [10 innings]  -- Box

Jackson finally got to play a full game, and even got in an extra frame.

But -- shockingly! -- the losing run came in off Mr. Bulletproof himself, our new annointed one Dominic Leone (Talk40 #25).

Leone had a streak of 15 appearances and 17.2 IP without giving up a run, and during that stretch had yieled only eight hits and one extra-base hit (a double) and one walk.

You see why we're so high on him?

But Wednesday he gave up a walk, a balk, had a guy advance on defensive interference, an intentional walk, and a walk-off single.  That's a lot going on in one half-inning, and it ended the scoreless streak.  But it doesn't really shake our faith in him.

Julio Morban (Talk40 #15) had a double and a single.

High-A -- Inland Empire 6, High Desert 5 [10 innings] -- Box

The Mavericks extended their game as well, only to lose in the extra inning also.

They couldn't capitalize on a strong start from Stephen Landazuri (Talk40 #24): 6.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K.

Jamal Austin had three singles.  Kevin Rivers stayed hot with a triple, a single and walk.

Rookie -- Kingsport 7, Pulaski 4 -- Box

The P-M's couldn't escape from the hole created when the K-Mets racked up five runs in the 4th.

Jesus Ugueto had a double and two singles.

AZL Rookie -- Diamondbacks 9, Mariners 3 -- Box

The youthful M's couldn't keep up with the youthful D-backs, but did get a good game from Corey Simpson, who got his third home run, plus a double.

Looking Ahead

Eddie Campbell, the Strikeout King of Southwestern Virginia, takes his 1.99 ERA and 13.1 K/9 into Tennessee for a start in Kingsport.
