Mariners Minor League Game Action Recap for July 9
Eddieeeeeeeeee! (but with disclaimer) ... looks like e-RAM after all ... etc.

It was fun speculating about whether Taijuan Walker (Talk40 #2) was going to replace Jeremy Bonderman, but it sounds as if it's going to be Erasmo Ramirez and there's nothing at all wrong with that.

Trade deadline approaches for Mssrs. J. Saunders and Harang, so we'll see what happens.

Rookie -- Pulaski 10, Princeton 3 [11 innings] -- Box

This is such an unusual game that I'm going to lead with it.

First, there's Eddie Campbell, the lefty from Virginia Tech taken in the 15th round.

[Usual caveats apply.  Major-college guy facing younger players.  Past performance not necessarily indicative of future results.  With approved credit.  Professional driver on closed course.  Tell your doctor if you've recently visted an area in which certain fungal infections are common.  But still ...]

5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 10 K

[And note that Matt Brazis (26intheMix), after wreaking similar damage out of Boston College last year, is struggling somewhat in High-A.  We're pretty sure that no fungal infections are involved, but it is not uncommon for guys from major conferences to look unstoppable when they start in the low minors.]

[OK, other than that, Mr. Campbell, how did you enjoy the game?  Sorry.]

Besides Campbell's awesomeness [by the way, he pitched the 6th through the 10th], there was, as you can tell from the line score, quite a finish.

Going into the 11th knotted at 3-3, the P-M's busted out in a big way.

Joe DeCarlo (Talk40 #22) got things rolling with a solo home run (his third), then after the rally went on for awhile, Kristian Brito (Watch List) capped it off with a three-run jack (his second).  Brito had doubled earlier in the game, and finished with three hits and six RBI.

Ian Miller also had three hits.

AAA -- Tucson 11, Tacoma 5  -- Box

As soon as I posted yesterday's recap, in which I speculated that Brian Sweeney would start for Tacoma, it hit me that it would probably be Andrew Carraway (Watch List), who had been rehabbing in the low minors.  And it was.

But it was not pretty:  3.2 IP, 11 H, 9 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

The Rainiers showed some life with a four-run 4th, but that was about it.

Ty Kelly is cooling off, but he got a pair of walks.

High-A -- Lancaster 7, High Desert 5 -- Box

Stephen Landazuri (Talk40 #24) kept it close-ish (not one of his better outings), but the Mavericks couldn't quite get enough going.

Landazuri: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 3 K

Patrick Brady kept it going with a double, a single and a walk.

Looking Ahead

OK, this time it really should be Sweeney for Tacoma.  Taking the e-RAM spot.  Charles Kaalekahi (26intheMix) is slated for Clinton.

Cooling off to the tune of 2-3 with a double and 2 more walks. Tomorrow say something like he looks tired and needs a day off - Maurer deserves some offensive support; maybe he'll go 4-5 with the cycle! ;-) ! Love your stuff, Jim!

Spec - how about a spotlight on super UT guys coming up. Ty Kelly, Patrick Brady, Romero, Tenbrink, Savastano, Leury Bonilla, Marder, -- we seem to have a bunch of versatile guys. Some are definitely more org filler (Bonilla, Savastano) -- but there's some interesting talent there. Any chance of doing a comparison of guys who, say, play 3 or more positions, at least one in IF/OF, and look at some guys in other orgs (Zobrist) or earlier times (McLemore/Javier/Gallegos/Amaral)?

I'll try to do that soon, Bat.   At first glance, only Romero seems like a guy with much chance to spend much time on a 25-man roster, but the versatility certainly helps.

just thought it might be interesting to see in perspective, particularly through your analysis tools.
