Mariners Minor League Game Action Recap for June 28
Empty feeling in Tacoma ... The Deej is being Zuninonian ... meet Ramire Cleto ... #VoteChoi ... etc.

Don't forget ... you can #VoteChoi through June 30 at mlb.com/futuresfinalists

AAA -- Las Vegas 9, Tacoma 0  -- Box

Poor Tacoma offense.  It looks like a minor league team again.  No Franklin, no Miller, no Zunino, no Ackley, not even a Montero, a Liddi or a Thames.

Well ... Abraham Almonte (26intheMix) is still there.  He went 2-for-4 with a walk.

And at least they still have the "Next Five" starting rotation ... oops.

"Puzzling Pax" made a quick return to the drama.  "KKKKKKKKKKK-Pax" exited stage left.

5.1 IP, 10 H, 7 ER, 1 BB, 5 K

That being said, most of the damage came from two big home runs.

That being said about that being said, Cheney Stadium is not really a home run park.

Short Season-A -- Everett 5, Spokane 3 -- Box

I'm going to bump up Everett (Jackson was rained out anyway) because there might be something Zuninonian brewing ...

D.J. Peterson is only hitting .216, but he has five extra-base hits, three of them homers, and seven walks in 37 plate appearances.  You know by know which numbers the Spectometer will love.  Singles will take care of themselves, we say.

And now he's settled in at 3b every day.  Will he stay there?  We'll see.

And, oh by the way, it was his second Grand Salami Time!

We think we're going to love The Deej.

Meanwhile, on the mound young Brazilian righty Thyago Viera put up another "interesting" line:

5.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 1 K

He's got an ERA of 0.52, and obviously he's hard to hit, but obviously he also doesn't know where the ball is going to end up (10 BB, 8 K).

Certainly one to watch, though.

High-A -- High Desert 5, Modesto 4 -- Box

Good night for all you Kivle-fans.  Patrick Kivlehan (Talk40 #33) went 3-for-3 with a walk.

And it was save number 10 for Dominic Leone (Talk40 #25), who went the final 1.1 IP with no runs and three strikeouts.  Dude has 16 K and 1 BB for June.  Leone for Bullpen!

(You heard it here first.)

Low-A -- Clinton 3, Wisconsin 1 -- Box

Tyler Pike (Talk40 #14) isn't going to let Victor Sanchez (Talk40 #12) run away with the "Teen Titan" pitching accolades.  As we noted, Pike has a bit of a walk issue, but not Friday:

7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

His gem brought home the LumberKings despite a lack of offense.  Dario Pizzano (26intheMix) had the only extra-base hit, a double.

Rookie -- Pulaski 4, Danville 2 -- Box

And here's a new name: 20-year-old Dominican Ramire Cleto

After doing nothing much of interest in the Dominican Summer League (3.4 K/9), he got a ticket to Pulaski where he's had two interesting starts.  Friday's was certainly an eye-catcher:

7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K

Zach Shank had two hits, including a double.

AZL Rookie -- Mariners 10, Reds 4 -- Box

Four singles from Kyle Petty led the way (we'll try to ease off the pedal on the NASCAR references, OK?) for the youthful Ms.

The Tank was again at DH.  A single and a walk for Tyler O'Neill.

Looking Ahead

Erasmo Ramirez  is slated for Tacoma.  Fourth-round pick Ryan Horstman is scheduled for Everett.
