Q.  By the time the ink is dry here, Moss could be a Charger or a Ram or something.

A.  In which case, our opining would apply to whichever WR the Hawks brought in.  'Cause they better bring somebody in fast.

Q.  Would the Seahawks need to promote Charlie Whitehurst, for Moss to catch any deep balls?

A.  I seriously doubt it, no.

Q.  Can Matt Hasselbeck still throw a deep ball?

A.  He can't drop 12 yards deep, take two breaths, and hang the ball in the air 6 seconds for a 65-yard leap in the end zone, of course not.

Which is fine.  The Seahawks don't have the pass blocking for that kind of bomb.  Not very often, anyway.

That was never the kind of bomb that Joe Montana threw to Jerry Rice.  Montana hit Rice, usually, about 30 yards off the line of scrimmage on a sort of timing play, as Rice burst past the defender.

This kind of play also prevents the corner from recovering.  It's Dr. D's preferred go route, the timing route as opposed to the hail mary.

Q.  Moss is known for his "punt return" jump balls downfield, though.

A.  Actually, he's equally adept at both. 

Check this video reel, in which Moss catches the ball exactly 30 yards past the line of scrimmage. 

Brady throws the ball less than 40 yards in the air, and yet it's a completed fly pattern.  Moss is more hellacious on this ball, at age 33, than he is at the 70-yard fly.

The one-hander over Revis this year against the Jets?  The ball was on the 35 for that play.

You don't have to drop back nine steps, count to two, and then play Punt-Pass-Kick with a rainbow.  At Moss' age, he's actually more effective on the 30-40 yard range fly that Hasselbeck loves to throw.

Q.  Don't the Seahawks already have several guys who can run fast?

A.  Every team in the NFL has several fast receivers.  What the Seahawks don't have, is a single legitimate NFL receiver.

Yeah, yeah, Butler and Tate have talent.  You think other teams' 3 and 4 wideouts don't have talent?  You ever get on the field with any D-1 wide receiver?

Just 'cause those two kids have shown flashes, doesn't mean that you aren't going to get barbecued by the Raiders the second that Mike Williams is out.  You are.

The Seahawks have a very weak WR corps, and Pete Carroll knows it.  Don't be suckered by Butler and Tate.  They aren't there yet.

Q.  Mike Williams is good, and would look even better with Moss out there.

A.  Mike Williams looks pretty good to me too, but he's a tight end playing wideout, like Rich Caster used to do for Joe Namath back when I was a kid.

Agreed, of course, that your matchups would get verrrrrrry tasty if you had two NBA forwards on the field at the same time.  The matchups, now you're talking.

But that's with Moss.
