Then draft will be upon us before we know it. It feels like it was just yesterday that the Hawks were defeated by the Carolina Panthers...narrowly missing a third straight trip to the big game. Now the team looks to build on their next Superbowl hopeful squad of 53.
Many mock drafts have been processed, and here are some of the names the "experts" feel will be called for the Seahawks first pick (#26 overall):
*experts used loosely as these mocks rarely hit matches much past the first few selections.
NFL.com staff
Chad Reuter - Sheldon Rankins. DT. Louisville
Lance Zierlein- Le'Raven Clark. OT. TeX T
Bucky Brooks- Noah Spence. DE. East Kent.
Charles Davis- Kenny Clark. DT. UCLA
Daniel Jerimiah- Eli Apple. CB. OH ST
Prospects associated with Seahawks:
DT Jonathan Bullard of Florida will meet with Hawks.
DT Vernon Butler of Lou. Tech had dinner with Hawks.
DE DeForest Buckner or Oregon had his pro day attended by Hawks DLine coach.
DE Shaq Lawson of Clemson met with team at combine.
QB Dak Prescott of Miss. St. Had formal meeting with Seattle at combine.
WR Laquon Treadwell of Ole Miss made impression on Pete Carroll
One of the biggest names in the mock draft world, Todd Mcshay's latest mock has the Hawks taking Alabama stars in the first two rounds.
At #26 he has A'Shawn Robinson, the 6 ft 4 (307lb) Defensive tackle whom ended last season with 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
Carroll weighed in a bit but talked about the depth of the defensive tackle spot in this year's draft. Seattle also brought back Ahtyba Rubin, but lost NT Mebane.
Mcshay went on to predict the Seahawks picking up Derrick Henry with their second pick...despite having an emerging star in Thomas Rawls, and resigning Christine Michael.
* as I said "experts"
Other notable "expert picks"
- SI.com Chris Burke going with CB William Jackson...despite what seems to be a significant nod in free agency to Jeremy Lane (Lane is considered more of a slot guy though)
Will Bronson of CBSSports.com also picks Derrick Henry to land with Seattle, but with their first pick at 26.
We will see who gets it right, but chances are they all are wrong.
Personally I think the team needs to go o-line. All the spots discussed by these experts have been addressed in one way or the other.
O-line was our issue going into last year, and is still the biggest area of concern now. Just look at the tape vs the Panthers if you have any doubt. Despite this, the team may look past this position once again in 2016.
