On Sunday the Seahawks went out and got their old crew member back to their elite secondary.
Brandon Browner signed a one year deal with the team, which along with Sherman, Thomas, and Chancellor...bring the original Legion of Boom cast reunited.
Just how Browner will fit into the defense will be up to how things play out at camp. It is fairly safe to say the team will have a roster spot for him, but not entirely the case. He may also not be an automatic starter after Lane was resigned on a 4 year deal.
As mentioned though, it is possible he may not get a spot on the roster at all. Browner did do poorly last year with the Saints, putting up record penalty numbers. He was beat often on balls deep and contributed to one of the worst defenses in the league. Browner did play with an injured MCL, which the Seahawks are hopeful contributed to this fall in play.
Browner does have the size to keep him around for specialty use though also. His height has served him well on larger receivers in the past, and he could be utilized in Nickel packages or to help cover tight ends as well.
Although his role is not certain at this point...one thing is certain. Browner was very excited to be chosen to come back to Seattle. He went straight to social media to get out his glee following the news. Browner also left straight from his brother's wedding in Maui to fly out and sign with the team. In doing so he will be set to start team activities today.
At 31 (going on 32 by NFL 2016 week 1) Browner's age also will have him out to prove many others wrong. Of these include the Patriots who only kept him around a season before him going to the Saints. Plenty to prove to the Saints as well after a very down year. A resurgance in Seattle may just prove that their system is just the best fit for him individually.
Most importantly, though, it is him who will have to prove his worth to the Seahawks first. Browner has plenty of young competition in the Seattle secondary. He knows what to expect from the playbook and coaches, but we will have to see if he can still translate that to the field after years removed from the 12th man.
Either way, its clear he has the support of everyone going forward, as he and that legion layed the groundwork for the secondary and Seattle defense fans know and love today.
