The offense has been less than flying high so far this preseason, but not all has been lost. In fact, the Hawks did exactly what they needed to do in order to address and figure out their new identity offensively.

After recent losses in these PRACTICE games, Pete Carroll has shown frusteration, but not defeat. This has all been for good reason as the team has been unable to get much accomplished when the "starters" have been on the field.

Overall, in 12 drives by the first team, the team has produced exactly ZERO touchdowns. Moving the ball has been so-so and resulted in 4 fgs overall and one turnover during those drives. Despite this, closer examination shows that Seattle has done exactly what they have needed to do in order to establish what they have going forward. We must remember these are in fact PRACTICES, and they do not count.

The game of football is won in the trenches, no matter what Roger Goodell and the pass happy league want you to think. The loss of Max Unger in the trade for the dynamic tight end Graham from the Saints really shook things up from an offensive line position. It is not as easy as one may think...for example: Unger out, insert_____. The line has had to change and mold to see what 5 person front will work out the best.

Going into the regular season September 13th, the team has now established what 5 will now be up front .It was not easy, and should not be.  After utilizing a different starting 5 in each of the first 3 preseason games, those who have earned their spot have finally shined through.

In a pretty surprising development Drew Nowak seems to have run away to replace Unger this season. Last season Nowak spent his time as a member of the practice squad, and needed each and every opportunity this preason, to show the team he was the guy to step into Unger's shoes. On his left side will remain the other Seattle Russell Mr. Okung)... He has batted sorness this preseason and the left side has struggled in trying to protect Wilson in that absence. Next to him at Guard should be Britt who overall has had difficulties making the transition from tackle to guard, and still has room to grow, but should do better once Okung is settled in beside him. On the right of Nowak, J.R. Sweezy , at guard, and tackle Garry Gilliam have continued to look strong in the preseason and look to complete an overall solid front line of protection for Russell and Beastmode.

To complete the line Unger's trade acquisition Jimmy Graham has been spending more time perfecting his blocking. In fact 36% of plays he spent trying to make holes for the running backs.  Graham will surely be blocking more this season as all goes through the run game, but you can bet the Hawks also held back on showing how they will truly utilize their new offensive weapon.

Speaking of the run game... Lynch just played on 3 snaps this preseason. This explains the remainder of the offensive issues as he is the man that really runs this offense and gives Wilson opportunities to stretch the field by keeping safeties and linebackers in the box. In all honesty though, he is just in this article so i don't get fined and was unavailable for comment on the preseason offensive woes.
