This should have been a game where the offense got its mojo back, in particular Rusell Wilson and his receiving corps.
After struggling to get anything resembling continuity in their performance against the Arizona Cardinals, the Seahawks marched down to the Bayou to try their hand at the leagues worst defense against the pass. The Saints have never been known for their defensive prowess, even in their Super Bowl winning year they were more opportunistic than anything else. Getting as many turnovers as yards they gave up it seemed.
it was not to be however, as Russell almost pulled out some more late game magic, driving them down to the New Orealans 10-yard line, but was unable to get it into the end zone for the win. The biggest fault of this team is their imbalance between the run and pass games. It's obvious that Russell Wilson is not able to carry an entire offense, at least not if he can't run.
Christine Michael is not the running back this team needs, too many times he tries to make something out of nothing and ends up losing yards trying to cut outside instead of simply taking a no gain. What made this team so effective was a bruising running game, complimented by the fact teams had to be on their toes at all times when Russell was a threat to run.
Injuries surely have played their part, but he has to be more sure of himself in the pocket and move the ball like he did in the second half of last season. They have not been able to generate big plays consistently either this year, with the biggest gain Sunday coming via a trick play where receiver Tanner McEvoy threw a bomb to CJ Prosise. By the way, McEvoy is just making big plays every chance he gets, I like this guy in a better performing version of BJ Daniels kind of way.
While his stats were not abysmal Sunday, Russell was and has been kept in the pocket more this season. Some of that is surely due to the injuries limiting his mobility, but it is starting to show how much it limits him. Without his ability to move out of and around the pocket, his big play potential with his arm and legs are diminished greatly.
Therefore it's on Darrell Bevell as much as anyone to figure this thing out, because the past two weeks these Seahawks have not looked like Super Bowl contenders.
