Roster in flux ahead of Jets matchup

Just as every loss is overblown, so is every win. Sunday's Seahawks victory at Century Link might be even more overblown because it came not only within the division, but against what used to be a rival. What's hard to believe is that these San Francisco 49ers lit up the Rams for 38 points when the Seahawks couldn't muster more than three.

Proclamations that the offense is fixed may ring out throughout the Puget Sound, but whether or not that is true, key cogs of the offense are broken - literally.

First there's the backfield. Thomas Rawls' injury turned out to be more severe than what everyone thought, Pete Carroll went on record saying that the injury is more serious than originally thought. Suffering from a tibula ailment, Carroll told Brock and Salk that Rawls is going to have to stay out a couple more weeks at least.

If Christine Michael can produce like he did last week, or even as he has so far this year, Rawls can ease himself back in at his own pace. Michael had been averaging five yards a carry before busting out for 106 on 20 carries against the Niners. While, the 49ers may not be the league's most feared defense, they did keep man-beast Todd Gurley to 47 yards on 17 carries Week 1.

C.J. Spiller has been added to the backfield as reported Wednesday. Selected ninth overall as an excellent pass catcher out of the backfield, Spiller would likely fill in for C.J. Prosise to fill Prosise's role as a pass catching back on third down.

Now the big injury that is on everyone's mind, Russell Wilson. Suffering from a sprained MCL, Wilson had to be taken out of the game - although it was more of a precautionary measure, as the Hawks had more to lose than gain with him in there. He has undergone his famous rehabbing in the middle of the night routine.

Carroll said today that he expects Russell to play in New York Sunday against the Jets, and it would be a tough ask for an undrafted rookie in Trevone Boykin to make his debut on the road in the Big Apple. He did do ok in his appearance in garbage time against the Niners, going 7-9 throwing a touchdown and an interception.

No doubt the playbook would shrink with Boykin, but with this Seahawks defense, all he needs to do is likely just lead one touchdown drive and lead a few more long enough to convert field goals.

Should be a long day for the Jets, and a day we learn something more about this team for us Hawks fans.
