What a poinant piece. It epitomizes what I feel about the retirement of Lynch.
Marshawn Lynch, affectionately known as Beastmode, overshadowed even the biggest of all games Superbowl Sunday.
Following the game Lynch announced his retirement.
He did it so in true Beastmode fashion with few words, and an amazingly creative and vivid twitter photo.
The photo, a picture of his cleats hanging from a telephone wire, was all anyone needed to see to know what was transpiring.
He is certainly true to his word, and always has been, and the picture clearly marks the end of an Era in Seattle.
From poignant run after run, Marshawn defined Seattle football during his time in the emerald city.
After coming over from the Buffalo Bills , lynch quickly turned himself into one of the best runners in the league.
Brick by brick he began to build up the Seahawks as a true contender. He then nearly toppled those bricks down when he triggered a rumble from the run heard round the world. A run so powerful that it triggered seismograph activity at a nearby station close to Century Link Field
The Beastquake was that of enormous proportion. After plowing through defender after defender, dragging full-grown men, and stiff-arming a defender on his way into the endzone...the stadium erupted so loudly that the earth shook.
The run probably inspired so many teams to bring Guinness Book of World Records into their stadiums to try and land the record for the loudest stadium. It opitomized what the 12th man is all about, and Lynch opitomized what a Seahawk is all about.
In many ways he built Century Link, and it is hard to imagine how far the team would have gone without him...even with the best D in the league.
He was a man of few words and because if that, unfortunately, his time to get in the HOF will be greatly lengthened. This is most unfortunate due to not just his play...but his character.
Despite what many would think, he gives back to the community more than most. He came from a bad area in LA, and is more than grateful for what he has been able to accomplish. He has used his star power and NFL platform to give back both in Seattle and back home.
On top of this, is ofcourse his play. He has been one of the best backs this decade with only Adrian Peterson there along with him.
There is no doubt he will be in the Hall of Fame someday in Canton, OH. Hopefully, it is sooner than later. Voters will have to, and should, look past his gruff and oppositional behavior towards the media. The same media that get a certain say on the decision will have to swallow some pride.
Thankfully, Lynch could careless and will roll with the punches regardless. It would not surprise me one bit if he graced the Canton stage, revealed his bronze bust, an gave the shortest speech in NFL HOF history... "I'm just here so I don't get fined"
