O's 3, NYY 7

The Orioles took a 3-0 lead early, but Wade Miley -- cruising to a 9-strikeout performane -- gave the Yankee$ a run in the 5th for 3-1.  Then, in the 6th inning, Miley gave up singles to Butler and Refsnyder ... coaching visit to mound ... Chase Headley doubles in another run.  3-2 Orioles.

In the 7th, Miley coughed up a leadoff dinger and POOF the Orioles' celebrations were back on ice.  Another single and Miley was outta dere.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, bullpen time, the Yankees went Walk - Double - Single - (5-3 NYY) - K - Walk - Double (7-3 NYY) - groundout.  Dellin Betances struck out three men in the top of the ninth.

Meaning:  all three "Open the Door" scenarios are "on" for Sunday.

KEEP IT UP BABY

At 5:22 pm, the Braves were up 2-1 on Detroit and the Tigers were coming up in the 5th inning.   The Jays were tied in the third against Eduardo Rodriguez, who Bill James likes very well but who throws with the wrong hand for the park and for the Jays' carload of thirty-homer men.   Update:  going to the bottom of the third, Jays with one hit, Sox with three, game still tied.

So, one or even both of the "Open Door" scenarios could be done by Saturday night.  Neither is it impossible that the M's could win a clear Wild Card spot without a play-in.  k PAX.  k PAX.  k PAX!

KUMA vs COTTON

No Mariners have yet faced Jharel Cotton.  Here are the matchups, Oakland vs Iwakuma, who is already 4-0 against the A's this season.  A lot of .091's and .133's on that matchup card.  The closest thing to an A who has done damage:  Steven Vogt, .269 in 26 AB's but with no ribbies.
