Seattle Storm Traditions
Which is your favorite?

Like any WNBA team, the Seattle Storm has several fun traditions fans know to expect during the game. Each of these not only makes the game more interactive and fun, but also unifies the fans together to rally and support the Storm as they take on an opposing team.

The first ritual is a pretty basic one that you can expect from any team: to wear the team colors. Fans of the Storm dress in red, green and yellow to show their support. Jerseys and team shirts are always a plus but not required to participate. Diehard fans, of course, sometimes paint their faces for even more fun.

Another fun ritual that a lot of fans do is to stand up until the first Storm basket is scored. This standing ritual lasts from the tip off until the ball sinks into the net. Fan Cyntha Padovano, who has been attending games for the last twelve years, says, “In other words we're standing with them while they're trying to get that first basket and once they do we're so happy and we get to sit down and we feel the game is off and running.”

Support of Aussie players on the team is always a fun ritual. The chant, "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie" is followed by fans with the refrain, "Oi, Oi, Oi." The Storm fans are known for being the loudest WNBA fans in the nation, so just making a lot of noise is also part of the game. The Storm also advises people to bring their own signs to help encourage the team during the game. Team colors, slogans and player names are all fun ideas fans can use for their signs. It is also a tradition to talk to the fans next to you and make new Storm friends.

Perhaps the most beloved tradition for the younger crowd is the Doppler Train. The team mascot escorts the kids in attendance around the court between the third and fourth quarters of the game. It is a Conga-like dance, and it helps get the kids more involved in the game. It’s also a good time to stretch between quarters. Fans are advised to hurry down to the court to participate because the Doppler Train is a very quick activity and over in minutes.
