All sports reflect the societies in which they are embedded. There is a reason that English people go home satisfied after a mind-numbing 0-0 soccer draw, you know. Instant gratification does not have the same import there as it does here. A rearguard action, fought in "quiet desperation," is the English way. They go home satisfied in their own resilient failure.
Not so in America. Should the MLB earned run average dip much closer to 8 runs per evening, riots will ensue. And in any given half inning, you can tick off on your fingers many sporting events which reflect Truth, Justice, and the American Way.
Who the deuce said this was a baseball blog? If we want to talk about life, we'll do so. Half the time it will be driven by the Shout Box - the other half, by Dr. D's addled but agile mind.
