Dang. The Birds are having a tough time of it.
Whelp, the Seattle Thunderbirds suffered another loss on Tuesday night when the St. George Cougars came to town. It was a pretty heavy win with a 6-2 score. There are only two games left before the Birds take a break for the holidays, so hopefully the guys can get it together and get two wins under their belts to end the period on a positive note.
The Cougars outshot the Birds 11-10 during the first period but it only got worse from there. Jared Bethune scored the first goal of the evening, and Ethan Bear made an effort to take the game back, tying it with a goal during the same period when the Cougar goalie, Ty Edmonds, took a dive, but it wasn’t in the cards. The Cougars outscored the Birds during the same period when Chase Witala made a goal. After two more goals during the second period and another in the third, the Cougars took the game.
The Birds have had a streak of poor games lately. One fan even said they played like their feet were in wet cement on Tuesday night. Let’s hope it’s just mid-season fatigue and that the guys can shake it off when they take their holiday break with their friends and families next week, returning to the ice refreshed, renewed and ready for some solid winning games for the rest of the season.
Most fans are also embarrassed about the fighting that broke out as a result of the loss. Some are blaming the $2 beer nights while others chalk it up to the severity of the night’s loss. Considering how so many of the players themselves are underage, however, it would definitely help if the fans could maintain a sense of decorum once they enter the center. Sure, have a good time, but fighting? Really?
The next game that the Thunderbirds have up will be on Friday night. They will be playing against the Tri-City Americans at 7:35 PM. It is another home game at the ShoWare Center, so local fans should be sure to pick up some tickets and lend some support to the guys. Tickets will be priced normally, ranging from $16 to $60.
Need some cheer in the meantime? Watch the team answer Star Wars trivia questions on Star Wars night on the team’s Facebook page. Some of these are pretty funny, especially when they were asked if Luke Osterman has The Force! Most of the teammates agreed that Wedman is the player who walks most like C-3PO, too. Sorry, Matthew, it’s the consensus! It was all in good fun.
