The Seattle Thunderbirds are welcoming another player this week. They have announced the acquisition of left wing Garan Magnes from the Edmonton Oil Kings, a trade that only cost them a draft pick from the seventh round of the Bantam Draft in 2017. After trading so many players recently, fans are surely happy to hear that this trade was made without another player involved.

Magnes wears the #14 jersey. He stands at 6’0 and weighs 194 pounds. Magnes was born on April 11, 1997 and calls Edmonton, AB his hometown. He shoots left. He has played in a total of 62 games during his career. In those, he made two goals and four assists for a total of six points. He has had 20 penalty minutes. Magnes participated in one playoff game but made no assists or goals during the game.

Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell says that the decision came quite easily. The team needed a new forward to help fill in for Owen Seidel, who was recently injured. Farwell said that the coverage was especially needed now more than ever since we are heading into playoff season shortly. Farwell praised Magnes, saying, “Magnes is a versatile forward who can step into all lines as needed which is very valuable down the stretch and in playoffs.” Magnes caught some criticism from Edmonton, with some fans saying that it took him too long to score his first goal with the Oil Kings. On making his first goal for the team, Magnes said, “It was a pretty surreal feeling. You don’t get many opportunities to put the puck in the net so you need to make sure that you time it right and capitalize on that opportunity.”

His wall is filled with well wishes from friends and family as he makes the big move to a new team.
