Sounders sign on another homegrown player

Yesterday we learned that homegrown player Jordan Morris would be joining the Seattle Sounders in lieu of attending Stanford University his senior year. Today we know that another Jordan, Jordan Schweitzer, is also joining the team as a homegrown player. Schweitzer is a native of Everett, Washington and is the team’s sixth homegrown player to join the official team.  A midfielder, Schweitzer is 6’0 and weighs 165 pounds. He was born on April 19, 1994 in Dallas, Texas. His contract was signed on January 7, 2016.

Sounders GM and President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey says that he is very pleased to add another homegrown player onto the team this year. Lagerway said that player development is a big part of the success of the team and they look forward to continuing the Sounders’ growth with more homegrown players in the future. Schweitzer himself says that he is a hard worker and plans to “wear the crest with pride” as a Sounder. He also says that he looked up to Osvaldo Alonso while he was growing up as a young man and he emulates the player while he is on the field.

Schweitzer attended the Seattle Sounders FC Academy from 2011 to 2012. As a member of the FC Academy, Schweitzer made 25 appearances overall. He scored six goals during that time period. While attending the University of Denver, Schweitzer made the All-Summit League First Team selection three times. He started in 70 out of all 73 appearances with the team.

Fans of Schweitzer can keep up with him on Twitter where he is known as @PapaSchweitz23. On his page, he simply describes himself as “University of Denver Mens Soccer #22.” Fans can check out his latest news, videos and photos as well as funny things that Schweitzer posts, such as admitting that he shops for gifts on Christmas Eve or saying, “When your flight that has already been delayed gets pushed back its like getting a C on a final then having the prof call and say you failed.”

Schweitzer is the son of Darwin and Kari Schweitzer and Connie Schweitzer. He has two siblings, sisters Taylor and Rachael. He attended Henry M. Jackson High School, where he was team captain during his junior year. Schweitzer made First Team All-WESCO selection the same year.

Tha actual news earlier this week was that Jordan Morris was leaving Stanford to turn pro.  The Sounders have not acknowledged his actual signing, and there is news that he'll train in Europe before the upcoming USMNT event.  They have, however, announced Schweitzer's signing.
