This game started out with significantly better-executed offense on both sides. Sylvia Fowles had a few offensive rebounds and putbacks for Minnesota, but play got a little sloppy for the Lynx halfway through the first quarter, and Indiana went on a 14-2 run to take an 18-8 lead. Minnesota responded with a run of their own behind 10 first quarter points for Fowles and 6 for Devereaux Peters, and they started the second quarter with only a 4-point deficit. Foul trouble (off of questionable calls, I might add) sent Peters and Catchings to the bench early in the period. With Catchings on the bench, the Lynx got some momentum but still trailed 39-41 at the half.
Tamika came back in the second half, though, scoring 7 points in about 2 and a half minutes and putting Indiana up 52-43. Fowles continued her high-efficiency post play extravaganza, which helped to bring the Lynx back to within 2. Two more fouls sent Catchings back to the bench, and Minnesota went on a 16-3 run. Maya, after a 5-point first half, came out of her shell and scored 14 points in the second. The Lynx maintained about a five-point lead most of the way through the fourth quarter and finished 77-71.
So the series is now tied 1-1! Game 3 will be in Indiana on Friday, October 9th.
