T-bird fans, what do you know about Matthew Wedman? Did you know that he plays left wing AND he shoots left? He was born on May 25, 1999 and his hometown is Edmonton, AB. Wedman stands at 6’1 and his weight is 189 pounds.

Prior to his involvement in the Seattle Thunderbirds organization, Wedman played for the SSAC Bulldogs Minor Midget AAA during the 2014 to 2015 season. The team is a part of the AMMHL. During his time with the Bulldogs, Wedman was able to score 28 goals in the 37 games that he played. He also made 54 assists. These stats brought his point value up to 82 for that single season. He also had just 40 penalty minutes during those games played.

During the 2015-2016 regular season with the Thunderbirds, so far Wedman has played in a total of 8 games. He has scored one goal and made four assists, bringing his total points for this season to five so far. Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell has high hopes that Wedman will continue to be a valued asset to the team throughout the season, stating that, “He was one of the top young forwards in this year’s draft.” His first goal was scored on October 16 during the 14:11 mark of the game.

Wedman also played with the South Side Athletic Club. With the club, he had a record of 32 goals scored throughout his membership. Added to his 40 assists made, Wedman ended up with a total of 72 points in the 33 games that he played during the season.

Wedman was signed on with the Thunderbirds during the 2014 Bantam Draft, and he was the 2^nd round choice for the team. He was the 38^th pick during the draft overall. On July 8, 2014 Farwell told the press that Wedman has signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement to play with the team.

On August 10, Wedman tweeted that he was “pumped to head back to Seattle for another year of camp!” He also graciously welcomed all of the new players to the Seattle Thunderbirds in May, offering them a warm congratulations message following the month’s draft pick announcements.
