Player of the Day: Tyrone Mears
Some info about the defender

He is a right back defender for the Seattle Sounders. Tyrone Mears may hail from Stockport, England, but he’s hoping to become a Seattle staple now. He wears the #4 jersey of the team. He was born on February 18, 1983. He is 5’11.5 and he weighs 163 pounds.

Mears has played internationally for the Jamaica team in 2009, honoring his Jamaican ancestry. He started his senior career from 2001 to 2002 with Manchester City. Then he played for Preston North End from 2002 to 2006. West Ham United was his home from 2006 to 2007; however, in 2007, he went on loan to Derby County. He stayed with Derby for a couple more years, playing for them from 2007 to 2009, although they loaned him to Marseille from 2008 to 2009. From 2009 to 2011 he called Burnley home, then he moved on to play with the Bolton Wanderers from 2011 to 2014. 2015 was his first season with Seattle after he signed on December 29, 2014.

Mears has played 33 games with the sounders, starting in all of them. He’s scored one goal and played for 2960 minutes. He’s had three yellow cards.

Before joining the Sounders, Mears had a long run of bad luck. He suffered a broken leg and floated from team to team looking for solid ground. He says that it was the “worst period of my career and life,” which was so bad for him that he agreed to replace Sounders player DeAndre Yedlin in a one-year deal at a drastic reduction in pay. Passion is his game now as he is playing hard and satisfyingly well with the Sounders, leading the team in starts and stylishly turning the heads and hearts of fans with his fondness for different haircuts.

Although he admits that his contract is less than desirable at this point in his career, Mears told the press that he could not request a better soccer team to play with, especially in terms of training and playing the game. He says he is also having fun exploring the United States now that he has moved here from across the pond.

Fans of Mears can follow him on his Twitter page, @TyeMears. His page description reads, “From the UK, residing in the US, Seattle Sounders Defender, this is my official page.” Fans can see his photos, videos and news on the page. Some notable posts include training day photos and a share from fellow teammate Thomas Jaguaribe, who TP’d his locker! He also has an Instagram account.
