Another Shut-Out
Birds beat the Blades

Seattle Thunderbirds fans may have waited more than half a season to see the first shut-out of the year just last week, but Landon Bow has proven his mettle yet again with another shut-out this week. On Tuesday night, the Birds won 4-0 against the Saskatoon Blades with Bow at the goalie helm. But it wasn’t all on Bow’s shoulders, either—the Birds vastly outshot Saskatoon the whole evening with 44 shots, compared to the Blades’ 17. Seattle was simple on fire the whole evening from both a defensive and offensive perspective.

Since joining the T-Birds, Bow has had two shut-outs and as of this game, his stats rose to 14-15-4-0. His save percentage is .945 and he is proving to hardcore fans that are missing Taz that he truly does care about the team, giving it his all and sticking his neck out there to really defend the Birds.

Donovan Neuls scored the first goal of the evening during the first period. It was the seventh goal of the season for Neuls. Mathew Barzal and Jared Hauf had the assists. The remaining three goals were all made during the second period of the game, with no goals scored during the third. Goal two of the night was scored by Keegan Kolesar with a wrist shot for Kolesar’s 20th goal of the season. Barzal made the assist. The next goal was a slap shot from newcomer Bryan Allbee, with Nolan Volcan and Nick Holowko making the assists. Barzal made a goal for the final one of the evening with a power play completed with assists from Ryan Gropp and Ethan Bear.

The second period was rife with penalties, from holding, checking to the head, unsportsmanlike conduct and major fighting. Fans argue that the Birds definitely showed better sportsmanship against the Blades, who seemed to not be taking their losses well during play. In fact, one fan remarked that the Birds “took a blade off a Blade” in reference to the night’s altercations.

Some fans are still sore from the big loss to Everett last week, losing their chance at grabbing that first place spot again. Do you think they can still get it back? The Birds will be playing again this weekend with a home-and-home series with the Portland Winterhawks, first in Portland, then in Seattle. Saturday’s game will also include the fan favorite Teddy Bear Toss tradition for a charitable organization.
