This was a really disappointing one, I have to admit.
Seattle Thunderbirds fans entered the Saturday game against the Everett Silvertips with high hopes after the Birds had two victories earlier in the week, including a fantastic shutout with new goalie Bow saving every shot that came toward the net. But over the weekend the Birds weren’t as successful at taking on their opponents and lost to the Everett Silvertips with a final score of 5-1. The game took place at the Xfinity Arena in Everett.
No goals were scored during the first period of the game, but Everett took the lead during the second period with a shot by Defenseman Cole McDonald. Assists were made by Kevin Davis and Matt Fonteyne. Connor Dewar made the next goal only seconds after the first was made, with assists made by Tristen Pfeifer and Brycen Martin. While Everett was only leading by two shots at this point, they were also leading by two goals. The T-Birds never recovered after that.
Cole McDonald scored a power play in the third period, followed by a goal by Kevin Davis. Carson Stadnyk scored an intense power play. By now, Seattle was thinking that Bow, who just had a shutout earlier in the week, needed a break. But bringing Flodell in the game really didn’t improve matters much; although the Birds finally scored a goal when Donovan Neuls made a backhand shot in the Silvertips’ net, right through Carter Hart’s legs, but it just wasn’t enough to get the Birds back in the game. Flodell ended up with 11 saves out of the 12 shot at him, which isn’t bad—but it didn’t win, either. Bow’s record is now 13-15-4-0. For the Silvertips’ part, Hart stopped 25 shots out of the 26 he encountered.
So the Birds aren’t back at their number one spot. They still have plenty of games left to make it back up. It wasn’t long ago when they were number one, and it won’t take much to get it back. The next time they see the Silvertips, who knows? Maybe it will be in the bag. Want to root them on during the next game? They’ll be home at the ShoWare Center, playing the Saskatoon Blades. It’s a two-for-Tuesday match, so it’s even a better value for your buck! Grab a friend—grab four—and make a T-birds night of it. Tickets are on sale at the box office as well as the Thunderbirds’ website.
