Even if he *was* inclined to be hard-headed about How Much He Has Left In The Tank, the ENTIRE BASEBALL WORLD has told him precisely how much IT thinks he has left in the tank.  A season or two, a guy's pride could keep him thinking he's better than the world thinks, but after he hits empty .200's for a coupla years reality will have set in.

All that said, yeah, elite athletes are EXTRAORDINARILY confident/proud/vain/narcissistic people.  Their minds don't work the same as ours dow, so it's not like we can completely dismiss the possibility that an Ichiro breakup will be an ugly affair.

But I'm putting my money on the 'Ichiro will conduct himself with dignity' side of this particular board.
